Summary (Goodreads)

One night can change everything…

Two years ago, Leigh Anne Davis shocked everyone in tiny Fairhope, Georgia when she broke up with her wealthy boyfriend to attend an Ivy League university a thousand miles away. At school, she finds a happiness and independence she’s never known.

Until one terrifying night takes it all away from her.

With no place else to go, Leigh Anne heads home to reclaim her old life. A life she worked so hard to escape. On the outside, she seems like the same girl everyone has always known. But deep inside, she’s hiding a terrible secret.

That’s when she meets Knox Warner, a troubled newcomer to Fairhope. His eyes have the same haunted look she sees every day in the mirror, and when she’s near him, the rest of the world fades away. But being with Knox would mean disappointing everyone all over again. If she wants to save what’s left of her old life, she has no choice but to say goodbye to him forever.

Only, the trouble with goodbye is that sometimes it’s about courage and sometimes it’s about fear. And sometimes you’re too broken to know the difference until it’s too late

This is the first book that I have read by Sarra Cannon, and I have to say that I completely fell in love with it. I couldn’t seem to put it down, and immediately after finishing it I downloaded the rest of the series onto my Ipad.  I simply could not close the chapter on her writing just yet!
Sarra did an amazing job creating the characters of Leigh Anne and Knox. The story begins with Leigh Anne who is returning home in order to find a sense of stability, and reclaim a life that had once made sense to her. However, events that took place in Boston (where she attended university) left her lost and broken. Leigh Anne is barely living life in the beginning, she just goes through the motions and does what’s expected of her in order to appease her parents. As hard as she tries she can no longer be the girl who fits into the cookie-cutter plan that her parents expect of her. The only time Leigh Anne feels normal and forgets the horrible events of her past is when she’s with Knox. Knox too has a troubled past leaving him marked as the towns “bad-boy”. Knox definitely does not fit with the plan that Leigh Anne’s parents have for her.  Leigh Anne sees a different side of Knox, and the two of them begin to fall into their own little word. It’s only a matter of time before the secrets of their pasts come crashing down on them.
Sarra Cannon delivers a well-written story proving the strength and courage it takes to face the demons of your past. Her characters are relatable and you just can’t help but fall in love with them. The relationship she builds between Leigh Anne and her mother was frustrating and raw, and as a reader I felt an instant connect to these women. Sarra developed an amazing journey the reader shares with Leigh Anne. I think she did an excellent job of showing the struggle of a victim of rape, a topic that is often forced into silence in today’s society. This first book in the Fairhope series is definitely one I will be recommending to friends!
