As some may have noticed I haven’t posted anything for the past three weeks! The reason being that over the last three weeks I have been packing, moving and unpacking in a new city! So now that I am all unpacked and organized I am finally able to get back to blogging! To start things back up here’s a review of As Good As New by Jennifer Dawson!
He was the high school hottie. She was the teacher’s pet. But in private, none of that mattered…
At the tender age of six, Penelope Watkins fell for her best friend’s brother, Evan Donovan, future hunk. By the time they were teenagers, they were having heart-to-hearts…and hot and heavy top secret make-out sessions. All that changed when Evan’s father suddenly died. Abruptly, Penelope lost him to grief—and to his true love: football. But now an injury had ended Evan’s NFL career. The notorious bad boy was in a depression no one could penetrate, except maybe the one woman who still knew him best—and still wanted him most…
Penelope is the last person Evan wants to witness the wreck he’s become. So when she shows up at his door he’s less than welcoming—even though the sight of her brings back the same old rush of desire. As a teenager, the emotions overwhelmed him. Now, when he wanted to be overwhelmed, Penelope wasn’t playing. She was telling the golden boy it was time to man up. It may have taken a concussion for Evan to realize it, but that’s exactly what he wants to do—starting with her…
This is my first read by Jennifer Dawson! I had no idea that this book was part of a series when I first sat down to read it, so it was a pleasant surprise when I found out that I have a few more books to add to my “to-be read” pile! I really enjoyed the cast of characters that Dawson created for this series so I look forward to reading the rest of them! As Good As New is the story of Penelope Watkins and Evan Donovan, it’s about 2nd chances and finding your way back to the person you’re meant to be with. Penelope was the teachers pets while Evan was a popular football player but when they were alone the labels slipped away and they found an undeniable chemistry between them. But when tragedy strikes Evan walks away from Penelope leaving her with questions and a broken heart.
Years later, while they are still in each other’s lives they barely acknowledge each other, and make sure to never be alone together. They choose to ignore the past and act as though nothing ever happened between them. When Evan’s career ends abruptly he begins to go down a dark road that only Penelope could pull him out off. This causes the two of them to face their history and find out if they really have a future or is it just something they need to get out of their systems!
I enjoyed the story line the Dawson created for Penelope and Evan, I think some might find the pace of things a bit slow at points but personally that was something I enjoyed about the story. Penelope and Evan have a lot of history and a lot of things to work out so that’s going to take some time, so I’m happy it wasn’t an “insta-love” situation. If you want to read an adorable love story about second-chances then I definitely recommend this story! I can’t wait to read more by Jennifer Dawson!
