From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Uscomes a poignant novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.
Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.
Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.
With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.
While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.
Colleen Hoover is a must read author for me. As soon as she announces a book release I instantly add it to my To Be Read list and count down the days until I get my hands on it. That being said I was a little hesitant when it came to Regretting You. I didn’t know if I could get into a story that revolved around both a Mother and Daughter. At this point I really should have more faith in Colleen Hoover and should know better than to have any doubts. By the end of this book I didn’t want to put it down. It’s an emotional and beautiful story that I feel will appeal to many readers because it’s not just one thing. It’s a romance but it’s so much more than that.
Colleen Hoover delivers this dual POV between mother, Morgan and daughter, Clara seamlessly. I thought Hoover wrote them both so well that I didn’t feel like I was skimming one to get to another, which is often the case for me with dual POV. I really liked the fact that the story started in the past, it gave readers a glimpse of the dynamic between Morgan, Chris, Jenny and Jonah as teenagers and I thought this was a great starting point to this story.
Colleen Hoover has this amazing ability to challenge the reader and make them look at complex issues a little bit differently. I love that her stories have a way of placing you there in the moment, and I’m constantly questioning how I would handle things if I was in the position of the main characters.
It’s officially getting difficult to pick a favourite when it comes to Colleen Hoover’s books but I know that this one is definitely near the top. It’s a raw and heart-wrenching story that you won’t want to put down.
